  • Uninstall “Microsoft .Net Framework Assistent” Firefox add-on

    Windows Update comes with a sort of surprise this time for us firefox users. Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 installs an extension named “Microsoft .Net Framework Assistant 1.0“. The add-on adds support for “Clickonce” and the ability to report installed .Net versions to the web server. Well, I suppose you neither like Microsofts way to distribute the add-on (no uninstall routine, the uninstall button is deactivated) nor the way Firefox handles access to your browser. So let’s get rid of it.

  • Workaround: Unavailable Widgets in WordPress Admin Panel

    This is a simple workaround for widgets which seem to be unavailable in your WordPress admin panel. When I started using my latest theme “Green Park 2“, I encountered a really nasty bug in WordPress 2.7.
    If you use a theme with two or more available sidebars and within each sidebar one or more widgets and you switch to another theme with only one sidebar, some of the widgets become unavailable in the admin panel: and you can neither deactivate nor rearrange them.

    Cordobo Green Park 2 is a simple & elegant light-weight theme for WordPress — the successor of four-year-old « Cordobo Green Park », one of the more popular themes for WordPress. The 2nd version has been rebuild from scratch and supports WordPress 2.7 and up, Widgets and Twitter.

    Green Park 2 uses a set of the most advanced techniques to speed-up serving and reduce server load:

    • Built-in optimizations for SEO (for humans and search-engines)
    • Image-sprites for less http-requests
    • SQL queries are reduced to the absolute minimum
